Julia McSherry
Julia McSherry has more than 25 years of experience in public relations and marketing communications in higher education, non-profits, conservation, and the private sector. She is currently a communications consultant, working primarily with the University of Northern Colorado Foundation. As a Colorado master gardener, she is also a volunteer with Weld County Extension and Colorado State University. She recently joined the board of the Wildland Awareness and Education Institute (WAEI).
Before relocating to Colorado, she was on staff at Loyola University New Orleans from 1990 - 2005, most recently as assistant vice president for marketing and communications in which capacity she was responsible for the development and implementation of the university’s first integrated marketing communications program. At Loyola, her responsibilities included branding; capital campaign and fund development communications; enrollment management and marketing recruitment publications; web development; and advertising.
She has presented numerous seminars and workshops for non-profit organizations and professional organizations such as CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), JAA (Jesuit Advancement Administrators), PRSA (Public Relations Society of America), IABC (International Association of Business Communicators), and AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals, formerly the National Society of Fundraising Executives).
She has been a frequent guest lecturer in public relations, English writing, and marketing classes at Loyola. She is former co-chair of Loyola’s Women’s Studies Committee.
Prior to higher education, her previous experience focused on environmental and conservation education. She was a public information officer for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and editor of Louisiana Conservationist Magazine marketing communications director for Southeast Louisiana Girl Scout Council .
A graduate of Louisiana State University, she was a participant in the 1999 Harvard Graduate School of Education Management Development Program (MDP) for higher education administrators.
